Have Your Voice Heard at the Midwest AGM

And now, a word from the president. Jeremiah  Johnson, President of the Midwest Rugby Football Union, wants you to have a voice at the Annual General Meeting.

President Johnson plans to have a meeting regarding the structure and execution of competitions in the region on Friday January 16 at 6:00pm, followed by a day-long meeting Saturday. The meeting on Saturday, January 17, is set to go from 9:00am to 6:00pm, with everything kicking off at 9:30am. Both meetings will take place at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare.

"Given the changing role of the Midwest, I think we need to consider a new approach this year," Johnson wrote in an e-mail. "I'd like each LAU to come armed with their top three suggestions of how the Midwest can financially support the growth and development of rugby in 2015. We'll plan a section of the meeting to discuss those and plan for bringing the top suggestions to fruition."

All Ohio rugby players, referees, coaches and administrators are invited to have their voices heard and submit issues to be discussed at the meeting. The Ohio Union President, Al Lucas, will be in attendance so topics for discussion can be sent to him. Proposed agenda items should be sent to Midwest Secretary Jim Harings.

The meeting will also touch on important topics like planning an administrative calendar.  According to Johnson, this calendar won't just be one consisting of save-the-dates but will contain functional dates by when information needs to be sent to the union  regarding things like sevens series tournaments, meeting announcements, schedule submissions, etc.

"I want a calendar created for making our territory work," he wrote.

Finally, change could be coming to the Midwest itself. Johnson believes it might be time to revamp the overall roles of officers and coordinators in the Union as they might be outdated. While the roles are defined by the union's by-laws, some have not been updated since their initial creation.

Following the Midwest AGM, all the clubs in the Ohio Rugby Union are invited to take part in an conference call with Lucas regarding what went on at the AGM and what steps need to be made in regards to how to structure competitions for the 2015-2016 calendar. Details regarding that call will be coming soon.
