Canton Rugby Skills Clinic Planned for Early March

The Canton Rugby Foundation recently announced the schedule for its fifth annual, free, non-contact rugby skills clinic. The clinic will be hosted at Hall of Fame Fitness Center on the indoor field. The date for the clinic is March 1. Both will go from 2:00pm-4:00pm.

The sessions are open to boys and girls in the Stark County area from ages 12 and up who are interested in learning more about rugby. Those who attend will participate in fun, fast-paced drills and games that stress the importance of teamwork in the sport.

Every year new players participate in the clinic and get excited about the sport of rugby, leading to a large group of players returning year after year. There will be sign-up sheets available for middle school and high school teams in the area at the events in order to get players immediately involved. The clinic has been a major driving force in building the clubs in the area.

The Canton Rugby Foundation aims to be a part of rugby's rapid growth and increased notoriety in the United States. Their first clinic started with 20 children participating, and last year they were packed with around 80 so there has definitely been growth. This year, they plan to breach the one hundred mark; and the growth is more than welcome.

There are now seven coaches certified by USA Rugby involved with the club. There are also veterans from the Canton Maddogs who will help run the games and drills at the clinic.
