Parting Shots from Nash Bash 2015 - Hey Ladies!

Last weekend teams flocked to Nashville, Tennessee for the 2015 Nash Bash rugby festival, with a number of teams spread throughout the divisions representing Ohio. From the young bucks competing in the college ranks to the seasoned veterans in the divisions for the men and women, the Buckeye State was well represented and the teams had strong showings for the most part.

In the Women's Competitive Club bracket, the Scioto Valley women opened up their weekend with a win over Memphis in a close match where they won 14-5. Unfortunately, they got blanked in their next match against Philadelphia on Sunday.

The Akron women made some strides in the Social Bracket. After falling early to the Nashville women, they rebounded to take their final two wins against Indianapolis and Detroit Tradesmen, 19-10 and 19-12 respectively.

The Dayton women didn't have as much luck, taking losses in their first two matches, losing a two-point match to Will County and by a slightly larger margin to the Dawg House. On Sunday they put up 22 points on Fort Wayne and kept them out of the try zone completely. The weekend wasn't a total wash for the women from the southern wilds of the state, though. While their performance on the field wasn't the best. They had a performance off the field that would be the envy of just about any team at the competition.

The Wittenberg women had a rough go of things in the Competitive College bracket. They were shut out in their opening matches against NIU, who won the bracket, and Western Michigan. Ashland's women had a better performance on the weekend in the bracket. They bounced back from a drubbing at the hands of Ferris State to take a 19-12 win over Northern Michigan.

Kent State's women blanked the ladies from Bowling Green State University and edged Wright State, 37-27, after losing their opening match to University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

Wright State and the University of Findlay women both won their opening matches in Nashville. The WSU women blanked Union College 15-0 in their opening match and Findlay got 17 points on their way to shutting out Marquette. Wright State went on to lose to EKU and Kent State, while Findlay's ladies went on to put 28 up on CMU and lose a close one to Chattanooga in the finals.

While none of the Ohio women took top honors in their respective brackets, they all performed well and took away at least a single win to start off their spring seasons. Hopefully, these performances will provide platforms for these teams going forward and their success will continue.
