High School Sevens Update

The High School Summer Sevens State Championship is approaching fast, and with one more slate of games still to play there are very few teams that are safe in their place in the standings.

As of now, Brunswick's first side, Highland and Pickerington are on top of their respective divisions. Mentor's second side is nipping at Highland's heels, while Lakota sits three points shy of Pickerington. Avon Lake currently trails Brunswick by a whopping 14 points.

In all the divisions, the races for the runner-up spots are tight, with a few points standing between teams. The largest gap in the top three of any division is Rocky River trailing Mentor's second side by four points. The second side from Brunswick needs to close a three-point gap on Avon Lake before they can join their first side counterparts at the top of the heap. The first side from Mentor is also two points shy of getting into the top three of their division as well.

Judging by how the last group of competitions went, some moves could be in the works but they won't be easy moves to make. Brunswick solidified its position at the top of their division when they put down Mentor's first side 45-12, while Brunswick's second side lost two close matches and tied their third for the day. Shaker Heights and the Mentor second side handed them their defeats. Mentor's first side had a less-than-successful outing on the day, falling in grand fashion in two of their matches as they were outclassed by Hudson and he first side from Brunswick.

Depending upon how things go tonight, it wouldn't be absurd to see the top teams get switched around in each of the divisions.
