Canton Looking to Close Summer with HOF Sevens

This Saturday the Canton Rugby Club will be putting on its annual Hall of Fame Sevens tournament. The competition looks to be an all-day affair with plenty of playing opportunities for rugby players of any type.

The competition starts bright and early, with the first match commencing at 9:00am. The final match is set to be wrapped up by 5:00pm, just in time for the social and trophy presentations.

Where this tournament really shines is in the amount and diversity of competition that is going to be taking place. As of now, there are a total of 14 teams set to compete throughout three divisions - Men's, Women's and High School. The men's division is an Ohio-heavy group, featuring Canton, Cleveland, John Carroll and Utica representing the Buckeye State. Joining them are South Pitt, Westmoreland, the Pitt Warriors and West Virginia. The bracket for the high school teams is heavy on the Ohio teams as well, with Brunswick, Mentor and Canton joining Soth Pitt to comprise their bracket. Finally, the ladies from Hiram and Westmoreland will go head-to-head during the day of competition as well.

The Canton men are coming off of strong seasons, with the men wreaking havoc on their division and making team history in the process. They will definitely be looking to recapture some of that magic and make the most of their tournament, especially because divisional opponents Westmoreland and South Pitt are in their pool along with divisional newcomers from Cleveland. The Maddog men will look to remind the familiar faces who runs the region and give the new blood from the north a proper welcome.

"This is the perfect opportunity to check out live rugby action in your back yard and prepare yourself for what will be an Olympic sport in Rio in 2016" said Jason Doyle. "All are welcome to come out to Weis Park, 2600 Logan Ave NW in Canton and check out the action, enjoy food and refreshments at the concession stand and purchase rugby gear and t-shirts."

Once the on-field action concludes, the extra-curricular events take place. The social and trophy presentation will take place following the tournament's conclusion at Nathan's Patio Bar and Grill, which is located at 725 30th Street NE.
