Stark Co. Boys Set for Spring Season

Rugby season is approaching quickly. In the spring, competition it at its peak, with the young men and women in high school ranks taking the field.

The Stark County High School Boys Rugby Team is one such team, and the boys are set to kick-off the team's sixth season. Stark County will, again, be competing in the Northeast Ohio Rugby League. The team is meant to be a fun, competitive gateway to get students acquainted with the fastest, growing sport in the country.

“We encourage all local student athletes to come out and try rugby," said Canton Rugby Press Secretary Timothy Orr. "We ensure a fun and safe environment for all students willing to explore the newest Olympic sport."

Stark County starts its season on the road against Copley, followed by another away match against Salem. From there, Stark County will compete against established clubs like Mentor, Lakewood and Saint Ignatius. Also on the schedule are up-starts Youngstown and Salem. All home games will be played at Weis Park, 2600 Harvard Ave NW in Canton.

Though the season is quickly approaching, the team is still welcoming to new, interested players; as the sport can benefit potential players.

"Rugby is a great experience and a great cross-training sport for many of the more popular sports kids are playing today," Orr said. "We encourage all area students to come out, join your local area team and be part of one of the fastest growing sports in the USA today.”

Practices are held every Tuesday and Thursday from from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at Bors Field, which is located at 2655 Harrisburg Road N.E. in Canton.
