Pools Set for Findlay's Flag City Tournament

Just because the sevens qualifiers are finished, doesn't mean there are no more competitions left in the state. Flag City Tens is set to take place in Findlay, Ohio on August 6 and boasts a solid set of pools.

Flag City will have brackets for men's teams and women's teams and have two of the area's high school clubs facing off in a summer exhibition.

There are eight teams in the men's bracket, and four in the women's. Akron will be looking to take home hardware in both brackets.

Standing in the way of the men will be, among others, the Toledo Celtics, Ohio Northern University and Utica Mudboggers. Of the men's teams, Toledo appears to be the favorite to win. Not only do the Celtics play in the highest bracket of the teams represented, but they also managed to top their league last season. The Hosts, Findlay SCARS, can't be counted out. Findlay ended last season with a spotless record in DIV, so home field advantage could help them finish off the summer with a tournament win.

The bracket for the women is more up in the air. While the teams have seen different amounts of competition since the summer started, either one could have a strong day and take the tournament. Akron, for example, has had a strong showing in tournaments so far this summer. The college ladies haven't seen much action this summer, but that could also mean them bringing fresher legs to the weekend - and that could definitely be a factor, especially going into the later rounds of competition.

The Findlay-Urbana match will be a preview of things to come for the next high school spring season. Both teams compete in the same division and faced each other last year in the 15s format. Findlay visited Urbana during the season and, unfortunately, got the short end of the engagement. The Renegades came out winners 46-24 winners that day and will hope to repeat that result Saturday.

The tournament will take place at 3336 County Road 140 in Findlay, Ohio. Competition will kick off following the 9:00am Captains' Meeting and go until the final results have been decided. Trophy presentations and social activities will take place at the field.

Admission to the tournament is FREE, so all spectators are welcome and encouraged to come.
